Operation Silent Night, an initiative of Richmond Animal League (RAL), was conceived with the idea of sending all of the animals at the shelter home for the holidays. In 2011, 119 animals had found their forever homes (and 55 more were placed in loving foster homes) during the inaugural adoption event. This year, with the help of community sponsors, RAL aims to repeat that success for the hundreds of animals awaiting adoption this holiday season.
During the event, which begins December 14th and runs through December 21st, adoption fees for all animals will be reduced to $10. With an average cost to vet, house, and feed each animal calculated at well over $100 per pet, local donors have come on board to offset the cost of the lowered adoption fees.
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Baxter Perkinson & Associates, Butler Schein Animal Health, PUNCH, SB&A Integrated Marketing Firm, Nature’s Select of Central Virginia, Holiday Barn Pet Resort, Canine Adventure, and Dogtopia Chesterfield, the animals of RAL are ready to go home.
During the event, RAL will expand its adoption hours and increase volunteer adoption coordinators on hand to match interested adopters with available animals. Operation Silent Night hours are as follows: Monday through Friday, noon – 8pm, Saturday and Sunday noon – 4pm. Pictures with Santa will be available December 15th and 16th during adoption hours.
After all of the animals have gone home for the holiday, RAL staff will visit local animal control facilities and bringing dozens of animals to the safety of our no-kill shelter. At the start of the new year, approximately 100 new RAL will be available for adoption.
