To the children of Primrose School at Ironbridge Corner, the hungry and homeless don’t always walk on two legs; sometimes, they bark or meow! Preschoolers at Primrose School at Ironbridge Corner will celebrate their annual Precious Pets drive by presenting their pet food and supplies donation to Richmond Animal League.
According to Animal World Network, more than 12 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. Millions more are abandoned in rural and urban areas. This donation of nearly 2200 lbs of food items and supplies is critically important. Many animal welfare charities face overcrowding and deficits due to budget cuts.
“Our families really stepped up to the plate this year. The teachers set up a competition between the classrooms to see which one would contribute the most pounds per child of pet food. We have some very competitive families and everybody was going for the gold. It was amazing to see the spirit. It really was a lot of fun and these homeless animals will benefit greatly from the generosity shown by the families.” Said Georgia Wiley, owner of the Primrose School at Ironbridge Corner.
Precious Pets is a character-building initiative meant to spark in our children a desire to give of themselves and help others. Character development is a key component of Primrose Schools Balanced Learning® Curriculum which blends academics, play and character development.
