Metro Richmond Pet Savers (MRPS) wants 2012 to be a good year for homeless animals in our area. The monthly massive adopt-a-thons that MRPS held in 2011 will continue into 2012. The first event of the year will be held this Saturday, January 14th, from 11am – 3pm at the PetSmart store located at 1276 CarMia Way, Richmond, VA 23235. Bundle up, join us, and meet animals waiting for permanent, loving homes. The events are also a great way to learn about rescue groups in our area.
Fifteen area animal rescues and shelters will be present with more than 150 adoptable dogs and cats. Each month the MRPS coalition selects a government shelter as its partner and the participating groups transfer as many animals out of that shelter as they can reasonably accommodate. The public is encouraged to come meet the adoptable cats and dogs. Each group will facilitate the adoptions of their particular animals. The first 5 adopters will be given free training sessions from PetSmart.
Metro Richmond Pet Savers is a collaborative group of animal rescue groups and shelters who take part in large, monthly Adopt-A-Thons in the parking lot of Richmond area PetSmart stores. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of cats and dogs from county/city shelters that may otherwise be euthanized.
Founded by Richmond Animal League, Ring Dog Rescue and Chesterfield County Humane Society, participating groups will transfer dogs and cats from county/city shelters in the week preceding the Adopt-A-Thon.
Questions and rescue organizations and shelters interested in joining Metro Richmond Pet Savers should be directed to metrorichmondpetsavers@gmail.com.
