Meet a Richmond Pet Lover: Brittany Shaal

by Sarah on July 22, 2011 · 0 comments

Hi Pet Lovers! Meet Brittany Schaal and her pets – a dwarf bunny, two dogs, and a cat. A runner, Brittany ran the Richmond Marathon last year to raise money for the Richmond Animal Shelter. Read on…

Penelope

Name: Brittany Shaal

Pets’ names/ages:

1.  Penelope – Dwarf Bunny – 6 Years old
2.  Phoenix – Mixed Breed – 5 Years old
3.  Chloe – Pit Bull – 4 Years old
4.  Johnny – Cat – 10 Months Old

How did your pets come to live with you?

1.  Penelope was a gift.
2.  Phoenix was adopted from the Richmond Animal Shelter when he was 8 weeks old. He was supposed to be a former boyfriend’s dog but he is definitely a Momma’s Boy.

Chloe and Phoenix

3.  Chloe was supposed to be a foster from the Richmond Animal Shelter. Brought her home when she was six months old and she just clicked with my household. I signed the adoption papers for her after less then a month of fostering.
4.  As a volunteer at the Richmond Animal Shelter I see a ton of animals that I would love to offer a home. Johnny had been at the Shelter since October. She was super cute and incredibly friendly. Her favorite playmate at the Shelter was a dog. Because she was FIV Positive no one wanted to adopt her. In February the Shelter staff started to hint that she would be a great addition to my family.  In March we adopted her.

Do your pets have nicknames?

I call Phoenix Bug.  He is also referred to by friends as Phe Phe and Mr. Phoenix.

Chole is Baby Bear.

Johnny

Johnny is Fat Belly Cat or Little Miss Thing.

Does anyone (including yourself) have an awesome trick?

No awesome tricks, just quirks I find endearing!

Did you have pets growing up?

We had cats and later in life we got a dog, but she was really my sister’s dog.

Where are your favorite running spots with the dogs? What’s so great about that spot?

We run through our neighborhood. I like it because I get to interact with the neighbors and see how people are making houses their individual homes. Phoenix likes it because he can solicit sympathy. He is notorious for stopping in front of a house where people are outside and acting ridiculously pathetic as if I have run him until he is just to dog gone tired to take another step. Chloe likes the neighborhood because the streets are queit enough for her to zig and zag. To say she is terrible at heeling would be the understatement of the year.

What do your pets know about you that no one else does?

Probabably more then I would like to admit!  They are all such great listeners, never judgemental!!!
