A recent poll conducted by AP-Petside.com reveals that 14% of pet owners would part with their sweetheart before giving up their pet.
It sounds shocking, but Count Fidel Martinez explains, “I know it sounds insane but I’ve had numerous relationships with women. My dog has never let me down.”
Luckily Martinez’s girlfriend of 4 years “like[s] the dog a lot,” because it seems unlikely she could separate Martinez from Killer, the 100-pound dog he rescued 7 years ago.
Cat owners were no different; the same 14% would stick by their furry companion if given an ultimatum.
I don’t find this hard to believe. Your Show Your Love stories have been steadily filling up my inbox. I’ve read stories of dogs defending kids against intruders, cats who came back from the brink of death to worm their way into their rescuers’ hearts, and several stories of how the right animal came along at just the right time to fill a hole in a person’s life.
