According to the American Dental Association 80% of us brush our teeth everyday. Our pets, however, do not. It is estimated that only 1 out of 10 pet owners make sure that their pets’ teeth are cared for. It is also estimated that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of gum disease by the age of three. Gum disease leads to tooth loss and infections that can lead to infections of the internal organs.
That is why the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and several veterinary groups are sponsoring National Pet Dental Health Month in February.
Know a dog or cat with bad breath? I sure do! Get them to a Richmond area Vet this month for an oral check up and cleaning!
Watch this video from the AVMA for easy, step-by-step instructions on how to teach a dog or cat to accept a daily tooth brushing.
